Rachel Hixson

Ad. Dip. CP, Dip. Hyp CS, MNCS (Acc), EMDR Level III

I founded Footprints in 2008 and have worked in private practice as a counsellor for over 10 years. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS) and hold an Advanced Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy and a Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Counselling Skills. I am also a Level III Practitioner in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR).

I am a strong believer that it can be a great relief to share our fears or concerns with someone who will empathise with our feelings. Talking to someone we can trust; who is separate from our situation and is prepared to listen and hear what we are trying to say, allowing us to feel at ease and safe in the process, can help us find a way forward. This process gives us the strength and support to change our situation or deal with it in a different, more positive way.

My main approach is person centred and I practice in an integrative way, blending a variety of therapy styles to suit each individual person’s needs. I believe that for any therapy to be effective, a trusting relationship is essential between client and therapist. My focus is on listening to you and supporting you without judgement or criticism.

I have worked with people of all ages; from young people to adults, both in private practice and supporting students at a local secondary school with counselling and support services.

I will listen empathetically to your problems or concerns and help and support you in finding strategies to resolve issues and change thoughts and behaviours. Discussing your concerns will help you to gain a better understanding of yourself, your feelings and actions and help identify ways to find solutions to these problems in a safe and confidential environment.

I am a great advocate in promoting counselling as a key resource in helping people achieve a more positive and balanced outlook on life.
